About the Town of Cheswold
Cheswold is a small diverse town, slowly transitioning into a rapidly changing future.
It boasts a history of originally being inhabited by members of the Lenape Indian tribe, Scottish immigrants and African-American slaves and lies directly at the intersection of Rts. 13 & 42, with the larger town of Smyrna on its north and the capital city of Dover, Delaware on its south.
The community consists mainly of single family homes, interspersed with new town home and future condominium developments, with a variety of businesses and churches. It also hosts its own police and fire departments and post office and is governed by a Mayor and a five person Town Council. In addition, there is a small airport available to private planes and a flight school for potential pilots.
And for those business minded entrepreneurs, Cheswold presents various opportunities for the development, creation and implementation of small businesses, such as barbershops, hairdressers, nail and spa salons, dental hygienists, laundries, cafes, 24 hr. medical emergency centers, neighborhood groceries, produce centers, butchers, and the like.
In addition, Cheswold is in close proximity, less than 5 miles, from a wealth of colleges and universities; such as Delaware Technical & Community College, Delaware State University, Wesley College and Wilmington University.
The goal of our town is to acquire and benefit from the technologies and improvements of the 21st century, while we maintain the charm, cleanliness, grace and hospitality of the 19th century.
